Eight from One
Figures ....but not really. They have become the jumping off point, but maintain less importance as the piece evolves. I am looking really to marry mark with figure in such a way that it is difficult to tell which has priority. I want that abstract expressionist type active mark whether in line or shape, to make the distinction of "edge" less viable as a separation of the two (figure/ground.) Trying to limit color, but blue has snuck in. I am working with one snapshot, made eight quick sketches, then let the sketch grow almost with a life of its own, eventually ignoring the snapshot image altogether and concentrating on composition.
I attempted this with my last drawings of "Carmen" and while the material marks garner significant attention, the figure is still to prominent.
I try again.....
